Training on water monitoring PDF

p2160159_custom.jpgThe Albanian Hot Spot project organized, as part of the capacity development component of the project, training for experts and environmental practitioners on water monitoring held on February 15th – 17th 2010, in Tirana, Albania. The overall aims of the training were: to provide participants with the skills to raise awareness of the issues surrounding water monitoring; to design and implement cost effective schemes suitable for purpose; to agree a set of key parameters and core indicators for future monitoring.

Participants at the training were practitioners involved in conducting, planning or assessing environmental monitoring and field surveillance as well as representatives of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy, Regional Environmental Agencies and the Agency for Natural Resources As a result of regional cooperation, knowledge exchange and networking, with the support of Regional PMU, the trainings were attended by the participants from the Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Economy from FYR Macedonia and the Ministry of Environment of UNATSCR 1244 Kosovo. The training was delivered in a tried and tested form from the experts’ experience of delivering such training. It was interactive, in order for the delegates to test and share their understanding and knowledge in each area as it is delivered, providing opportunity at that point to highlight or explore areas of further understanding.The course covered the need for monitoring, the requirements of relevant EC Directives, international standards and WHO Guidelines. The course included design of monitoring systems, selection of sampling points, key parameters to monitor; sampling methods and field procedures; sample handling and traceability; laboratory procedures, data checks, storage, presentation and assessment according to purpose.

 

 
Training on chemical management PDF

The Albanian Hot Spot project organized, as part of the capacity development component of the project, training on chemical management held on December 7th – 11th 2009, in Tirana, Albania.

Participants at the training were representatives of relevant Albanian institutions/ organizations, including the Institute of Public Health, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy, Regional Environmental Agencies and the Agency for Natural Resources, which have responsibility in the above fields of interest. As a result of regional cooperation, knowledge exchange and networking, with the support of Regional PMU, the trainings were attended by the participants from the Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Economy from FYR Macedonia. The training was focused on the following topics: basics of toxicology, basics of REACH, risk assessment, preparing the work under REACH, PIC procedure, socio economic aspects of REACH.

 

 
Training on Mine sites rehabilitation and risk assessment PDF

The Albanian Hot Spot project organized as part of the capacity development component of the project a training on Mines Rehabilitation and Risk Assessment held on December 7th – 11th 2009, in Tirana, Albania.

Participants in the Mines rehabilitation and risk assessment training were representatives from the Institute of Public Health, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy, Regional Environmental Agencies and the Agency for Natural Resources. As a result of regional cooperation, knowledge exchange and networking, with the support of Regional PMU, the trainings were attended by the participants from the Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Economy from FYR Macedonia. The specific topics covered at the training were: hazards in copper mining, elimination of dust, pollution from mine waters, mining waste, public participation in environmental matters, impact on human health, risk assessment on contaminated sites. The Conceptual Site Model was introduced along with the relevant legislation and best practices currently used in managing contaminated sites investigation and development. Examples of chromium sites in Glasgow, with particulars details on SEA and EIA were presented. At the proposal of the consultants and due to the interest of the participants an additional session on the new area of Medical Geology was included in the agenda. Future legislation was also discussed along with specific relevance to the regional mining industry sector, with examples from accession or pre accession countries.

 In order to strengthen the mechanisms of good governance and policy integration at central and local level a special focus is given to the promotion of access to information and linking Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) as mechanisms to implement policy recommendations.

As far as concerns the process of enhancing the national capacities for the design and implementation of environmental policies, a market survey of professional environmental services will be conducted and based on its results, the training needs will be identified and a roster of qualified environmental experts shall be established.
