The training on Air Quality Monitoring will take place on May 19^th –21^st 2010, in Albania. It will host practitioners from relevant Institutions in Albania and from the region who are conducting, planning or assessing environmental monitoring with special emphasize to air quality monitoring. pdf

Remediation of tailings in Reps and Rreshen

Reps and Rreshen, Albania - In line with donor approval from July 2009, the Albanian Hot Spot Project, in frame of the WBEP, started with activities for remediation of the tailings in Reps and Rreshen.Two neglected tailings in northern Albania were identified and evaluated (in UNEP report from 2008) as a priority sites requiring emergency works to be conducted, i) Reps - four abandoned tailings facilities continuously pollute the local river; subject of the remediation works will be the tailing 3; ii) Rreshen - due to a failure of the water diversion structures at the tailing the stability of the tailings dam is unstable and needs urgent repair. Training on water monitoring

Tirana, Albania - The Albanian Hot Spot project organized, as part of the capacity development component of the project, training for experts and environmental practitioners on water monitoring held on February 15^th – 17^th 2010, in Tirana, Albania. The overall aims of the training were: to provide participants with the skills to raise awareness of the issues surrounding water monitoring; to design and implement cost effective schemes suitable for purpose; to agree a set of key parameters and core indicators for future monitoring.
